What condition must existing wallpaper be in?

Smooth (no embossing), firmly adhered, no peeling/bubbling, and clean. Vinyl-coated paper in good condition works well. Heavily textured or peeling paper won't support a new layer.

Is it better to remove existing wallpaper first?

For the absolute best results, yes. But removal is laborious. If existing paper is in good condition, layering is a viable shortcut, especially in rental situations.

Will the existing pattern show through?

Only if the existing wallpaper has physical texture (embossing, raised patterns). Flat, smooth existing paper won't show through ONDECOR's opaque panels.

Can I use traditional paste instead?

How do I prepare existing wallpaper for a new layer?

Press all seams flat — use seam adhesive on any lifting edges. Clean with a damp cloth. Let dry. If vinyl-coated, lightly sand with 220-grit. Apply new wallpaper starting at the top, pressing firmly. See application guide.

Will removing the new layer damage the old wallpaper?

Usually not — peel and stick removes cleanly from smooth surfaces, including wallpaper. Remove slowly at a 180-degree angle for best results.
